In recent times, many personalities are facing allegations of sexual harassment in the work place. Even Nana Patekar, Rajkumar Hirani are facing these allegations.
Now, one the most important part Indian democracy i.e. Judiciary is also under scrutiny.
On Saturday 19th April, a junior court assistant, in her mid-30s filed a complaint letter to the 22 judges of the Honorable Supreme Court with affidavit accusing The Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi of sexual harassment. The woman said that the CJI sexually harassed her. She also accused the CJI of professional targeting, harassment for her family
and criminal cases against them.
The very unusual hearing held on 20th April presided by the CJI Ranjan Gogoi himself, which itself raised question. The CJI left the hearing mid-way and asked rest of the judges to look into the matter. The Secretary General sent a reply to the complaint filed in an email mentioning, “She worked as a part of home office of The Chief Justice of India only for a short period and there was no occasion to directly interact with The Chief Justice of India”. Further the mail also mentioned that this the case of big conspiracy.
The Chief Justice of India spoke about the issue and said that there is a “bigger plot” which sought to “deactivate the office of the CJI”. He also claimed that the independence of judiciary is under threat.
Whatever the verdict will be, it sure will be historical.
